Wanessa Moura made a recent complaint about Instagram policies that, according to her, seem to be making life difficult for many people who work directly with social networks. For some time now, she has noticed the difference in engagement in her publications and realized that this has to do mainly with the clothes she is wearing in the images. “Instagram seems to favor nudity, the algorithm only delivers my bikini photos,” she declared.

“It is an extremely sexist situation; how can an algorithm be worked with a sexist and misogynist bias?” asks Wanessa.
Wanessa is also a model, so she publishes many fashion editorials in which she appears in swimwear or lingerie, and notes the discrepancy in the likes she receives, in addition to the number of comments. For her, this content absorption has nothing to do with the interest of her almost 1.5 million followers, but with the reach offered by the platform. “I have already received messages from part of my audience saying that my posts do not appear for them,” clarifies the influencer.
It is worth mentioning that research has already been carried out to investigate what happens in these applications and the result showed that women with underwear or bathing suits are displayed 1.6 times more than images with them dressed. In the case of men, the rate is approximately 1.3. “It is an extremely sexist situation, how can an algorithm be worked with a sexist and misogynistic bias?” questions Wanessa.

The influencer also points out that she does not condone nudity on the networks because she believes that it devalues women. “I’m not in favor of women’s nudity on the internet, it doesn’t value us. But a photo of lingerie for a catalog, or a fashion editorial is no problem at all. What cannot happen is that these images stand out absurdly more than the others,” she concludes.
