“6 Feet Down” is the first taste of new music from Tara Lily, and follows the release of “Double Time,” a track that combines, R&B, jazz, drum ‘n’ bass, and traditional Indian sounds into a unique fusion.
“6 Feet Down” sees Tara going back to her roots while expanding on the darker lyricism explored in her previous work. “It’s about finding your way out of the deep, dark place of sadness,” Tara stated. “6 Feet Down” is laced with late-night melancholy and dubbed-out instrumentation, as wavy Rhodes keys and Theo Croker’s signature trumpet float through the air, in symbiosis with Tara’s spectral vocals, creating a gloomy soundscape.

A formidable talent who celebrates strength and power in her music, “6 Feet Down” marks the start of a new chapter for Tara Lily, who is set to release a brand-new project next year on her new label, Tru Thoughts, to follow up her acclaimed EPs “Last Flight Out” and “Lost in London.” Talking about signing to the iconic independent imprint, Tara says: “I’m thrilled to be making the album I’ve always wanted to make on the innovative and excellent label, Tru Thoughts.’”
Tara Lily – “Double Time”
Both “Double Time” and “6 Feet Down” add to Tara Lily’s catalog of distinctive music that marries the sonic terrains of the East and West, and has amassed support from notable media outlets and playlisting on BBC Radio 1, BBC Asian Network, plays on BBC 6Music, Jazz FM, and spot plays by Greg James, Jack Saunders (BBC Radio 1) and Jamz Supernova (Selector Radio).
Tara Lily
Growing up in south London with a strong connection to her British Bengali heritage has given Tara Lily a unique perspective on music and global culture. She has spent her life absorbing a multitude of sounds and genres from her surroundings, ranging from alternative R&B and jazz to Indian classical and electronica. It was this intriguing blend of sounds and her deep understanding of the worlds they come from that caught the attention of the likes of Virgil Abloh, Gilles Peterson, Iggy Pop, Jamie Cullum, and Motown Records UK, who signed Tara as their first British artist.
Tara has trailed several UK festivals in 2023, including Glastonbury (with three performances over the weekend), We Out Here, and Daytimer’s Dialled In, as well as playing live on TV – BBC2 (The Kia Oval), joining King Krule on stage at Apollo Theatre and supporting RAYE at the Royal Albert Hall. Tara is also one of the first acts to be announced for the Brick Lane Jazz Festival and Wild Fields Festival, 2024.
