Summer and The Rain is an up-and-coming band based in Phoenix, Arizona. Not too long ago, they released a lovely indie-alternative tune, entitled, “Daisies.”
Summer and The Rain – “Daisies” single
“Daisies light up the room. In the sun, I’m alive, but I’m frozen inside. I’ll meet you up on the roof and I don’t think I’ll be back here soon. Hope I’m not missing this one hell of a fire. I could be the one they light but acting as a sacrifice. Am I born again, I’ll be bored again.” – lyrics
‘Daisies’ tells a nostalgic tale about a young woman who finds herself outside in the summer heat with someone who has unknown intentions. Apparently, her heart is frozen inside, and she sees herself inside scenes from another person’s dream. She hates to know, but she still asks the individual close to her, “I don’t wanna be a bother but, could you hold me when it’s dark?”
‘Daisies’ contains a relatable narrative, ear-pleasing vocals, and tuneful melodies. The likable tune possesses guitar-laden instrumentation flavored with indie-alternative and contemporary rock elements. Furthermore, “Daisies” is the fourth and final song on Summer and The Rain’s debut album, entitled, “Sun Drop,” inspired by The Office TV show. Also, the project is relatable to anyone who has ever wanted to be more than just friends.
“This summer tastes like boiling lemonade, strange with a familiar taste.”
After her departure from the hard rock outfit, Undecided Youth, lead vocalist, Summer Welsh, sought to form a new group during the live music lull that a nationwide surge of quarantine efforts brought on. Through complete happenstance inside a Super Target, she recruited drummer, Holden Long, who quickly brought on his childhood friend, keyboardist, Joel Domkus. The trio found its permanent bassist in Josh Jones, a seasoned musician from the Phoenix music scene, and Welsh’s long-term boyfriend. The lineup filled out then after with the installation of lead guitarist, Andy Hahnke, a friend of the band who had worked previously with Jones on projects such as KC Angels and Vintage Wednesday.
Summer And The Rain combines the organ-powered textures of jazz, the ferocity of progressive rock, and theatrical vocals of new waves to create a sound all their own. The band is currently performing across the valley in support of their debut EP.
