Snakehips is a production duo from the United Kingdom. Daya is a GRAMMY® award-winning, multi-platinum singer-songwriter from Pittsburgh, PA. EarthGang is an Atlanta, Georgia-formed hip-hop duo, Johnny “Olu O. Fann” Venus and WOWGR8 “Eian Undrai Parker.” Not too long ago, the three individual parties released a lovely music video for their “Sometimes…” dance single via Helix Records.
Snakehips, Daya, & EarthGang – “Sometimes…” video
“I can do what I want sometimes, been lost in my emotions, been looking for a sweet escape. I’ll show you where I’m going, I’ll take you to a better place. Leave your worries with me, I’ll be your remedy, your hand pressed onto my cheeks. Play our songs on repeat, lost in the melody, come fade into it with me.” – lyrics
‘Sometimes…’ tells an exciting tale about a woman who gets drunk and messed up every now and then. Ain’t nothing wrong with that, right? Up all night, getting a little undone, having a little bit too much fun while chilling in the back of a club. With thoughts of staying up and getting high, she says what she feels, “I can do what I want sometimes. Do what I want, do what I like (do what I want, tonight). Do what I want with my life.”
The “Sometimes” video finds Snakehips conjuring up a distinctly retro flavor with grainy, glitchy aesthetics. The visuals make their forward-thinking dance pop comfortably familiar as Daya and EARTHGANG circle through the video like old friends contrasted against kaleidoscopic landscapes. Furthermore, “Sometimes” has amassed over two million streams in just a couple of weeks, and follows mildly on the heels of Snakehips & Tinashe’s “Who’s Gonna Love You Tonight” single.
