Rihanna is an iconic, award-winning singer-songwriter, actress, and businesswoman from Saint Michael, Barbados. Not too long ago, she returned to the world stage with a breathtaking music video for her haunting pop ballad, titled, “Lift Me Up,” produced by Ludwig Göransson.
Rihanna – “Lift Me Up” music video
“Lift me up, hold me down, keep me close, safe and sound. Burning in a hopeless dream, hold me when you go to sleep. Keep me in the warmth of your love when you depart, keep me safe, safe and sound.” – lyrics
‘Lift Me Up’ finds Rihanna singing about drowning in an endless sea and burning in a hopeless dream. Apparently, what she desires the most is love, spending time with her significant other, and being safe from all dangers. Perhaps the world at times doesn’t seem all too comforting, but the idea of being strongly held in the strength of your partner’s embrace surely does, especially in moments of vulnerability. Later, Rihanna sings with great passion, “We need light, we need love,” and she is right.
‘Lift Me Up’ contains a relatable narrative, ear-pleasing soul vocals, and enchanting instrumentation flavored with Adult Contemporary, R&B, and contemporary pop elements. Furthermore, “Lift Me Up” is the lead single from the upcoming Black Panther: Wakanda Forever movie soundtrack, entitled, Wakanda Forever: The Album. Also, the enchanting tune was written as a tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman, who played King T’Challa, the protagonist in the original Black Panther movie.
