Pomme (Claire Pommet) is a unique singer-songwriter from France. Not too long ago, she released a lovely music video for her charming new English track, titled, “Very Bad,” plus “Very Bad (soft version)” in advance of her first ever Los Angeles (12.12) and New York (12.14) shows.
Pomme – “Very Bad” music video
“‘Very Bad’ is a song that I wrote in 2021. It’s about being a woman, growing up, and realizing that when you’re a young woman you are a target for older men and that it’s wrong. I wanted to speak about this in a funny way, in a lighter way. Because I didn’t want it to be dramatic, but more something kind of funny.” – Pomme explained
‘Very Bad’ is not entirely the first time she ventured out with an English song. Her latest album, “Consolation,” includes “when I c u” for instance, and last January, she collaborated with Norwegian artist, Aurora. Their duet, “Everything Matters,” has been streamed over 25 million times. In 2020, Pomme made a cover of Feist’s song, “The Park,” on the Goodnight Songs For Rebel Girls‘ compilation.
Pomme started penning songs for “Consolation” shortly after receiving the award for Female Artist of the Year at the French Music Awards (Victoires de la Musique) in February 2021. The album follows her acclaimed sophomore effort, “Les Failles.”
Pomme – “Consolation” album
“It led me to these stories of women that touched me, in which there is a lot of tragedy, sadness, and injustice. But it’s also a concept of childhood.” – Pomme stated
‘Consolation,’ produced somewhere in the Canadian countryside, focuses not on what was going wrong as did “Failles,” but rather on what makes you feel good. The project alternates between discussions about Pomme’s childhood and the women that inspired her. Written in the Burgundy countryside, as well as in Paris, Montréal, “Consolation” was first devised as a piano-vocal album. The synthetic and electronic textures Pomme aspired to, would follow, adding that level of maturity and expressing the artist’s ambition for renewal while staying true to her core identity.
After recording “Consolation” in Canada, and playing a couple of live shows there, Pomme is returning to play live in Montréal and is embarking on her first Los Angeles and New York adventures. The critically acclaimed project includes the heartfelt single, “Nelly,” a tribute to Canadian author, Nelly Arcan.
Pomme gained exposure thanks to her deeply mature and sensitive lyrics, as well as her delicate one-of-a-kind vocals. Also, she’s involved in feminism, women’s rights, and queer movements.
