Chadwick Murray
In the limelight of imminent global fame, the Texas band Bastards of Soul’s journey was marked by the unforeseen loss of their charismatic frontman, Chadwick Murray. BASTARDS OF SOUL captures the raw essence of the band’s final album sessions and the electrifying stage presence that defined them. The documentary also celebrates the enduring legacy of a man who achieved his dreams against all odds.
Formed by a collective of veteran Dallas musicians including bassist Danny Balis, keyboardist Chad Stockslager, guitarist Chris Holt, and drummer Matt Trimble, the soul/R&B band Bastards of Soul quickly emerged as a local favorite, led by powerhouse first-time frontman Chadwick Murray. They generated buzz at break-neck speed, signing with the Dallas-based Eastwood Music Group, recording, and releasing their 2021 debut “Spinnin’,” and playing packed theater shows with artists such as The Black Pumas and Kamasi Washington.
“You Let Me Down Again”
Bastards of Soul would only be able to record roughly 20 more songs before losing Murray to an unexpected illness. The band released two albums after Murray’s passing, “Corners in Spring” in 2022 and “Give it Right Back” in November 2023. “You Let Me Down Again” is the first single from that record, accompanied by an official video that features behind-the-scenes footage of studio sessions culled from the documentary, showcasing the band’s final days together before Murray’s passing.
