“Olivia Dean’s warming soulful voice is going to be something I predict we’ll be hearing a lot more next year and beyond. There are a real truth and honesty to Olivia’s songwriting, drawing upon personal experiences, wrapped up with soulful joy, and delivered with her distinct humorous charm. Also, she’s an incredible artist and I’m delighted to have her included in our DSCVR Artists To Watch 2021 campaign.” — Carl Young, Head of Music & Talent, EU

Olivia Dean – “The Hardest Part” (Official Video)

“Call me up to meet you, static on the phone. Normally I need you, this time I don’t wanna go. Lately, I’ve been growing into someone you don’t know. You had the chance to love her but apparently, you don’t, no you don’t. Even if I could, wouldn’t go back where we started. I know you’re still waiting, wondering where my heart is. Praying things won’t change, but the hardest part is you’re realising maybe I, maybe I ain’t the same. And what you’re waiting for ain’t there no more anyway.” — lyrics

‘The Hardest Part’ tells a heartfelt tale about an 18-year-old girl who once shared a problematic relationship with her significant other. Apparently, during this time, she was head-over-heels in love with her partner. However, as she got older, she started maturing into a young woman who eventually grew out of love with her companion. Eventually, she decided to no longer let anyone’s opinion define who she is anymore.

‘The Hardest Part’ contains a relationship-based narrative, ear-welcoming vocals, and tuneful melodies that are sure to pull on your heartstring. Also, the gorgeous tune possesses vibrant instrumentation wonderfully flavored with a nostalgic indie-R&B aroma. Furthermore, “The Hardest Part” serves as a marvelous presentation of what listeners can expect to hear on Olivia Dean’s four-track EP, entitled, “What Am I Gonna Do On Sundays?

“You had the chance to love me but apparently you won’t.”

“So far I’ve wanted my music to feel empowering and assured. But I wrote the final single ‘What Am I Gonna Do On Sundays?’ at a time when I wasn’t feeling so positive. I think it’s an important and beautiful thing to be both soft and strong. For sure the biggest thing I’ve learned from this strange year is that being alone can be really beautiful. And although it feels daunting, there is so much peace that comes from choosing yourself and starting again.”
