Nova May – “Hate You” single

“Back in the day, wasn’t it sad how I followed you around, I was your shadow. Do anything for your attention on me, oh, how the tables turned. I left you in the past, you always put me last. But now you’re begging me to reconsider. Uh, I’d like to say we could be friends but you’re full of sh*t, I’m not into it, no. So I guess I’ll just hate you, hate you. There’s nothing you can say to change my mind. You’re begging me to rate you, chase you, but nothing’s gonna make me press rewind. My god, you’re obsessed with me, kinda possessively. Copy and pasting all I do. So I guess I’ll just hate you.” – lyrics

‘Hate You’ tells an honest tale about a young woman who has successfully moved on from a toxic friendship. Apparently, she’s doing exponentially well now, and her former friend is begging her to reconsider her decision. However, there’s nothing no one can say to make her change her mind. Therefore, she tells her former friend, “Forgetting you was the best thing I did. So don’t try and come for me.”

‘Hate You’ contains a heartfelt narrative and ear-pleasing vocals that would resonate well with fans of Natalie Shay, Tove Lo, Dua Lipa, and Kim Petras. The radio-ready tune possesses upbeat instrumentation bursting with contemporary and electro-pop elements. Furthermore, “Hate You” follows on the heels of Nova May’s solo debut single, entitled, “Pay For Your Love.”

“‘Hate You’ is an emotive bite back at the girls in my school who never believed in me. I wrote this song just after seeing a toxic ex-friend pop up on my social media for the first time in a while. When I saw this, I wondered how they would treat me now that I’m more confident and doing well. Daydreaming, I imagined a scenario where one girl, in particular, would try to befriend me again, and in return, I would just dismiss them.” – Nova May explained

Not too long ago, Nova May was signed to UMG Decca Records as a child star. She had a Top 20 hit with “The Poppy Girls,” which saw her perform for the Queen at the Royal Albert Hall in the mid-2010s. After the split of the group, Nova continued to master her craft by studying music at ACM in Guildford, which inspired her creativity and passion to go solo. Now equipped with a fresh new look, sound, and attitude, Nova is ready to take the pop world by storm.
