Mina Okabe – “Walk Away” video (Live at Mr. Larkin)
“Sent a text last night but you still haven’t replied. Best to forget ‘cause you don’t invest the time. Get out of my mind, get out. You’re messing with my head ‘cause I wait for you. Maybe, I’ve misread all the things you do. Looking for a reason to stay, why can’t I walk away? Walk away, away from you.” – lyrics
‘Walk Away’ tells a heartfelt tale about a young woman who shares a problematic relationship with her significant other. Many times, she tried walking away from her partner. But every time she tries to leave, her companion manages to find a way back into her life. Later, she admits that she doesn’t know where their relationship is heading because she can’t find a reason why she wants to stay.
‘Walk Away’ contains a relationship-based narrative, ear-welcoming vocals, and tuneful melodies that will resonate well with fans of Lara Samira, Dolly Ave, and aryy. The likable tune possesses guitar-driven instrumentation flavored with a mellow indie-pop aroma. Furthermore, “Walk Away” follows mildly on the heels of Mina Okabe’s debut single, entitled, “I’m Done.”
“Why can’t I walk away, walk away, away from you.”
“I wrote ‘Walk Away’ about the feeling of not knowing if the guy that I was seeing was as interested in me as I was in him. I was asking myself if I should walk away from what we had or keep giving him chances to prove me wrong. And I missed summer so much when I recorded this. So I took some of the best sunny memories I had on my phone and put them up on the computer screen to constantly remind me of the feeling I wanted. And even though the subject is pretty sad, I feel like ‘Walk Away’ became a reflection of those pictures.” – Mina Okabe explained
‘Walk Away’ is a refreshing splash into an azure-blue swimming pool or a plunge into the Mediterranean Sea. While Okabe sings of the bittersweetness of love, her gentle voice almost embraces you like a much-needed hug in these unbearable times of social distancing. Furthermore, “Walk Away” is the reassurance of something better on the horizon.
