MELONYX (Georgia Copeland and Nadia Latoya) is a soul-sister duo based in Nottingham, England. Not too long ago, they released an appealing music video for their “Melanin Queens” single, produced by Joe Buhdha.
MELONYX – “Melanin Queens” music video
‘Melanin Queens’ is a personal anthem written to depict the innovative, creative, and trendsetting nature of Black women. The song finds MELONYX acknowledging their melanated sisters as queens. Also, “Melanin Queens” expresses the power, royalty, and high value of Black women.
Furthermore, “Melanin Queens” contains an empowering narrative, ear-pleasing vocalization, and tuneful melodies that will resonate well with fans of Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, and Angie Stone. The likable tune possesses serene instrumentation flavored with enchanting neo-soul vibrations. Also, “Melanin Queens” is featured on MELONYX’s debut double single, “Melanin Queens / Energy.” Plus, both songs are featured on the duo’s debut EP, entitled, “Black Elixir.”
“Reciprocation and protecting one’s energy is a principle we firmly stand by and believe in.”
“This is an ode to Black women and girls everywhere. We live in a society which perpetuates an idea that we are less than, when in fact we are the fountain from which everyone else drinks.” – MELONYX explained
MELONYX draws influences from the worlds of hip-hop, neo-soul, and lovers’ rock. Their tracks are the embodiment of a series of recurring conversations between MELONYX throughout their friendship and time working together.
