Meagre Martin (@meagremartin) is an up-and-coming indie-rock band based in Berlin, Germany. Not too long ago, they released a lovely music video for their lo-fi indie-rock single, “Please Clap,” released via Mansions and Millions.
Meagre Martin – “Please Clap” music video
“‘Please Clap’ is a satirical take on the feelings of inadequacy. The original inspiration for the song came from using performance as a means of connection and a way to feel seen. As the song was forming, a lyric Sarah was writing reminded her of a viral video from the 2016 US Presidential race of Jeb Bush giving a ‘rousing’ speech, then having to ask his audience to ‘Please Clap.'”
‘Please Clap’ contains a relatable narrative that will resonate well with fans of Big Thief, Cate Le Bon, Snail Mail, and Lomelda. The emotive tune possesses saturated drums and bass-laden instrumentation flavored with a lo-fi indie-rock vibration. “Please Clap” also serves as a tasty appetizer to what listeners can expect to hear from Meagre Martin in the near future as they continue to release new music.
Meagre Martin
“Meagre Martin is an indie music project founded by African-American musician/songwriter, Sarah Martin, in the summer of 2021,” wrote Ena Kantardžić. “Sarah is originally from Boston, MA, but she moved to Berlin, Germany, in the fall of 2017. Searching for meaning in a crumbling global climate, this project was created as a means of survival, and catharsis through uncertain times. A few months into the project’s culmination, Freddy and Max joined the band to make a solid trio.”
