Following an incredible 2024 with over 60+ million streams in 12 months, Marnz Malone (@marnzmalone), Birmingham’s rap riser caught the eyes of many with his Top 10-selling rap album “Tina’s Boy” mixtape. Accumulating media support, Marnz also featured on UK chart-topper Nines’ “Quit While You’re Ahead” album and was named one of Complex UK’s ‘Ones To Watch’ rappers. Gearing up for the release of his highly anticipated mixtape “Sabr,” Marnz has enlisted fellow newcomer KayMuni (@kaymuni_cg) for their latest single “I Hate January.”

“I Hate January” is centered around the increasing number of suicides in custody. Harnessed with great emotional depth, Marnz Malone uncovers an issue that not only lacks significant awareness but holds close to his heart. Calling on KayMuni for the single, “I Hate January” is welcomed with a thought-provoking production enabling their captivating bars to sit center stage from start to finish.
Paired alongside a gripping music video, we follow through the eyes of two prisoners who are experiencing bad mental health episodes, leading the first prisoner to take his life. In a generation consumed by temporary TikTok sounds, Marnz is bringing real rap back with this stimulating release.
When asked about the release, Marnz Malone commented, “January is naturally the most depressing time of the year. I wrote the verse speaking about things that make me depressed, being in jail, losing my bredrin, growing up in poverty. I felt it was only right for the video to focus on depression in custody and how it can end with people taking their lives in this hopeless place.”
Marnz Malone
Marnz Malone is one of the hottest prospects in UK music. Born and raised in Spanish Town Jamaica, he moved to England around the age of 6 years old, more specifically Birmingham Newtown. His Jamaican roots influenced his music heavily.
In his own words, Marnz explains, “Vybz Kartel & Movado’s clash at Sting was probably the first time I realized the impact of music because the whole gaza vs gully thing was massive where I’m from.” Moving to Newtown in Birmingham, the rap scene there began to influence him, and this is where he realized the power of music.
Marnz’s love and enjoyment for music and the emotions it makes him feel made him take that step further and begin recording his own tracks, realizing it could change his life and the lives of those around him.
Releasing a steady number of projects with his debut “Trenchfoot” in 2022, “Maktub” in August 2023, and “Tina’s Boy” at the beginning of 2024, all representing different times and feelings throughout his journey, allowing him to say things he struggles to say. Drawing from personal experiences and struggles, Marnz creates an emotive, raw, vulnerable, and honest sound that connects to his listeners on a profound level and captures them.
