‘Don’t Wanna Wake Up’ tells a tale of love and desire. The likable tune contains a relatable narrative, enticing vocal interplay, and rich harmonies. Also, the Dahlstrøm-produced instrumentation pairs soft synth lines with a groove-laden rhythm section.
Marie Dahlstrøm
Marie Dahlstrøm has made a significant name for herself and is recognized for her warm, jazz-tinged, soulful R&B. She grew up listening to Edwyn Collins, Womack & Womack, and Gloria Gaynor. Also, during her teenage years, she cites Dwele, Musiq Soulchild, SWV, Dire Straits, Lucy Pearl, Erykah Badu, Kirk Franklin, and Fleetwood Mac as key points of inspiration in her musical upbringing.
Since then, she has been patient with her career, carefully plotting and building toward her first full-length body of work. “Don’t Wanna Wake Up” serves as a fantastic presentation of what listeners can expect to hear on Dahlstrom’s upcoming debut album, entitled, “Like Sand” (release date, May 22, 2020).

“Music is my identity. It’s what I’m most proud of. I hope there will be something for everyone with these new songs. Also, I hope that people will find comfort and maybe feel more of themselves while they listen.” – Marie Dahlstrøm explained
Recorded between L.A., Copenhagen, and London, “Like Sand” features collaborations with the likes of South London soul singer James Vickery, California-based songwriter/producer Jeremy Passion, Brooklyn-based singer/producer Elijah Fox, British guitarist Beau Diako, and more.
