Maggie Rose (@iammaggierose) is an acclaimed Nashville-based singer-songwriter. Not too long ago, she released a wonderful music video for her empowering new single, “Underestimate Me.” The video was shot in Nashville and directed by Noah Tidmore. The vibrant clip sees Rose driving through town intercut with a rooftop performance – all capturing the infectious swagger of the song.
Maggie Rose – “Underestimate Me” music video
“Underestimate Me” is a galvanizing anthem that Maggie Rose delivers with an assured confidence. The spirited tune is the launching pad for an exciting new chapter in Maggie’s musical journey, and her first release with her new label partner, independent powerhouse, Big Loud.
“Underestimate Me” is soaked in a swampy, bluesy mojo that gathers steam as the song progresses. By the end, the whole band is throwing around anything that isn’t nailed to the floor. Rose comes on with sassy grit and cool fury, and as she notes, the lyrics share a through line with her podcast Salute the Songbird with Maggie Rose: “I always ask women, ‘What’s your superpower?’ Many of them say that they feel being underestimated is their superpower, because they just blow people’s expectations out of the water. It’s a song for people to wake up and brush their teeth to in the morning when they’re trying to gas themselves up for a good day.”
Maggie co-wrote “Underestimate Me” with Chris Gelbuda (Meghan Trainor) and Henry Brill (Joy Oladokun), with production by the GRAMMY-Award winning Ben Tanner, who mixed it with GRAMMY-nominated Bobby Holland who engineered. Notable players on “Underestimate Me” include two members of Jason Isbell’s 400 Unit, guitarist Sadler Vaden and drummer Chad Gamble, keyboardist Peter Levin (Amanda Shires, Gregg Allman), keyboardist Kaitlyn Connor and guitarist Kyle Lewis from Maggie’s band, and bassist Zac Cockrell from Alabama Shakes.
