Lucky Lou (@who.luckylou Louise Lindberg) is a Stockholm-based singer, songwriter, and producer from Alingsås. Not too long ago, she released a lovely five-track debut EP, “Dance Melancholia,” via the independent label TEN Music Group.
Lucky Lou – “C’est La Vie” single
“‘C’est La Vie is about being left by someone you thought you would spend your whole life with. The sorrow of being involuntarily alone and accepting a definitive end to something you don’t want to be without. The EP begins with the end and ends with the beginning of the same love story. Each song is a flashback to how you ended up where you are.” – Lucky Lou explained
The EP’s opening track “C’est La Vie” describes the breakup of a challenging relationship, which contained many poignant and heart-wrenching moments.
Lucky Lou – “Dance Melancholia” EP
“Dance Melancholia” rarely came to be. But sometimes, music defies control. This was the case with Lucky Lou’s unplanned EP. When she bought a new computer, a desire to learn production and express herself more freely was sparked. Expectations were modest, but the result was quite the opposite. Just a few months later, she had a finished EP.
“The whole thing was just an experiment that I thought I would fail,” Lou stated. “Instead, a new door opened, allowing me to express myself more broadly. I fell in love with creating something from scratch and learning to trust the process. It became a journey through myself via creation, which helped me gain insight into how I felt and thought about certain things.”
Two tracks were released during the spring – the 80s-scented “Space” and the somewhat rawer, almost dubstep-gritty “Leave Me Alone.” Both tracks give a hint of the EP’s sound, offering dirty pink cinematic synth pads, UK Garage rhythms, and skillfully crafted pop melodies. Above all, the songs on the EP are considered diary entries, each dealing with different stages of a complicated yet passionate romantic relationship.
