Listen to Night Tapes’ New “Assisted Memories” EP

Night Tapes (@nighttapesmusic) is a DIY dream pop trio from London, England.  Not too long ago, they released their hotly anticipated EP, “assisted memories,” via Nettwerk Music Group.

The seven-track project features singles including the upbeat disco tune “projections,” the meditative “every day is a game,” the rapturously received early 2024 single “loner,” as well as fan favorite “drifting,” released to acclaim late last year. Also, “assisted memories” features the stunning, trip-hop-influenced “easy time to be alive,” the reverb-soaked psalm-like “waterfall,” and the cerebral synth adventures of the title track “assisted memories.”

“The EP is about honoring and remembering the different versions of ourselves,” stated lead singer, Iiris Vesik. “These songs were created by capturing artefacts of time on analog and digital recordings. Each song relates to a memory that includes an understanding that came with changing. Lyrically it’s a somewhat emotional organization of those understandings. As I’ve understood that we humans are forgetful creatures. Those who write history down, access control over the interpretation of their own stories and thus responsibility over their own realities.”

“assisted memories” is the band’s fourth EP, following “Dream Forever In Glorious Stereo,” “Download Spirit,” and “Perfect Kindness.” The project is another otherworldly Night Tapes EP from the ever-evolving South Londoners as they prepare to embark on their next UK tour for September, with dates in London, Leeds, Cambridge, Manchester, and Bristol. Their debut US tour will follow in November, as they head out to play dates in New York, Chicago, LA, and San Francisco for the first time.

Night Tapes started as evening jams between housemates Max Doohan, Sam Richards, and Iiris Vesik in London. Night time London, genre-blending, multi-fidelity recordings, and honest reflection contribute to their atmospheric soundscapes that ultimately make for fresh and envelope-pushing dream pop. The trio takes inspiration from their lived experience in the world that they can see and touch, as well as the less tangible spiritual and metaphysical realm.

After a 2023 that included the release of their third EP “Perfect Kindness” last summer (2023), and a tour of the UK and Europe spanning Vienna, London, Bristol, Brighton, Manchester, Copenhagen, Paris, and Tallinn, the band is also going from strength to strength with their live show. They have recently announced a spread of new UK dates for this September and revealed this week that their debut US tour is set to follow in November, after signing a booking deal with UTA.

2024 is shaping up to be Night Tapes’ biggest year yet, with their Spotify following growing by over 50% to nearly 30k, nearly three million streams for late 2023 single “drifting” as well as support from BBC Radio 1, and monthly listeners peaking at over half a million with 1.7 million streams.
