Discover the Transformative Journey of june’s “Crying In The Bathroom” Single

june (@thejuneverse) is a band from Denmark consisting of three friends (Celine Svanbäck, Jeppe London, and Lauritz Emil Christiansen). Not too long ago, they released their latest single “Crying In The Bathroom,” marking a more mellow and melancholic direction than what we’ve seen from the trio so far.

In the music video, viewers are greeted with a profound sense of hope—symbolized by the light at the end of the tunnel. This imagery represents an escape from darkness, but a transformative journey of burying past experiences. It’s a visual metaphor that resonates with many, encapsulating the theme of overcoming struggles and finding a path toward brighter days.

june explains, “The ending is burying past things (literally), but not forgetting or neglecting. The old kliché about ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.’ It’s usually a bit uninspiring and banal to say it out loud, but can really hit hard in practice, and in context. It’s also a bit funny and wholesome, I think at least (Lau), that Celine, usually the most angsty and romantic of the characters, is the one to pull us out of our misery and getting us on the right track, leaving the past behind.”

“Crying In The Bathroom” is one of June’s most introspective tracks, evoking a deep sense of melancholy. The song exudes raw emotion as it explores the life of the friend who seems surrounded by people but may feel utterly alone. Celine, one of the band’s members, shares her thoughts about the track, noting how it resonates with many listeners who can relate to feeling isolated despite being in a crowded space.

In her own words, Celine explains, “It’s definitely one of our saddest ones. I think a lot of people have that one friend who has 100 friends and is always the last one to leave the party. The song is about that person, and what happens when the party’s over? That’s always been the story. But to be honest I think it was a distance I created so it was easier to reveal some hard truths about myself in the song.”

Every song has its story, and “Crying In The Bathroom” is no exception. Written a few years ago, this track encapsulates the experiences and emotions of a transformative period in june’s musical life.

“‘Crying In The Bathroom’ was written a couple of years ago, and has been on quite a journey,” the band explains. “The song has been with us for years actually, at least five to six. So, it used to be more of a party song, starting: ‘Turn up the Cardi (B), came here to party!’ But as we got older, we thought it was cringe (as you tend to feel about your old lyrics).”
