“Wish You Stayed” resonates deeply as it follows in the footsteps of Julia’s previous singles, “Expectations” and “Give You Up.” The song reflects the quiet ache of losing a relationship that once felt perfect. The tender guitar melody perfectly complements Julia’s soul-stirring vocals, creating a soundscape that truly captures the essence of heartache. Overflowing with emotional depth, the lyrics tap into those raw moments of reflection when you’re left questioning how everything unraveled.
Julia describes the inspiration for “Wish You Stayed” as drawn from the raw moments of reflection during her relationship’s unraveling. “I wrote this song in the midst of mourning a relationship,” she explains. “So, I took inspiration from all of the texts I sent to friends and the little notes I’d written down on my phone. Ultimately, it’s about cherishing and reflecting on the good moments, even when you know it’s time to let go,” highlighting a universal experience that many can relate to.
In a world where emotions are often hurried and overlooked, Julia Raye’s music serves as a reminder to pause and embrace life’s bittersweet moments. So, if you haven’t already, take a moment to listen to “Wish You Stayed;” it just might resonate with your own experiences.
Julia Raye
Julia Raye has been performing for as long as she can remember. She grew up taking dance classes, singing, and performing in local musical theater productions. By age 17, she had performed in over 20 musical theatre shows along with performances with the New York All State Choir and ACDA All National Choir. She went on to study vocal performance at the University of Michigan where she was able to learn from George Shirley, a pioneer in the opera world who became the first African American to perform at the Metropolitan Opera.
Outside of her classical training, Julia has always had an ear for pop and R&B music, citing Beyoncé and Ariana Grande as two of her main influences. With her project, she combines her operatic vocals with diaristic storytelling and catchy pop melodies, carving out a sound all her own.
