Listen to “Let Go” – A Wonderful Indie-Pop Single by JOA

JOA (@kindajoa) is an up-and-coming 20-year-old singer-songwriter from Oslo, Norway. Not too long ago, she released a wonderful indie-pop single, “Let Go,” via Playground Music Scandinavia.

JOA – “Let Go” Single

“Let Go” showcases JOA’s most powerful and emotionally resonant songwriting to date. With a warm indie-pop sound infused with a folky tone, the song defines a perfect balance of heartfelt vulnerability and catchy, relatable melodies.

Let Go’s raw, organic sound was preserved from the original recording, capturing the emotional intensity of JOA’s performance. Rather than fine-tuning every element, the track intentionally embraces its imperfections, amplifying the authenticity of the moment.

Lyrically, “Let Go” explores themes of release, self-reflection, and emotional healing as JOA grapples with moving on from a relationship. Lines like “When you’re gone, are you even gonna miss me?” and “This story is starting to get old, I’m trying to let it go” evoke the relatable struggle of letting go. The result is a deeply personal yet universal track that listeners of all ages will connect to.

JOA has been honing her skills since her early teens, blending her theatrical background with a talent for crafting relatable, heartfelt songs. Fans of Phoebe Bridgers and Julia Michaels will find much to love in JOA’s narrative-rich exploration of growing up.

JOA is poised to engage a wide audience with her stunning music and visually captivating content, making a significant impact with her forthcoming debut EP, set for release at the start of 2025. “It’s very lyrically orientated,” she admits. “It’s only really played with instruments in the room. It’s very organic – but it has a pop structure, and the writing is pop. Melodically, it’s a little folky too.”

The tracks on her upcoming project are the result of deeply personal writing on JOA’s part, on topics like early romantic relationships (the cinematic “Previous Problems”), the need for positive self-talk (“A Little Kinder”), and the idea of not knowing what you have until it’s gone (“Golden Years”).

“It’s a good little wrapping up of my teen years, and then I can move on and make new music for where I’m at now,” JOA explains.  Sonically, the songs veer between burly pop production and airier, more acoustic sounds, though they’re always tied together by a signature lyrical simplicity.

There’s very little doubt that pop fans will find a huge amount to relate to in JOA’s varied, nuanced exploration of adolescence, whether it’s in the rawness of “Let Go,” “I don’t want nobody but your body,” or the heightened drama of “Previous Problems.” The EP announces JOA as a bold new voice in the Norwegian pop music scene.
