Famed London-based DJ, producer, and remixer, Jax Jones, recently linked up with singer, Calum Scott, and they released a lovely dance single, titled, “Whistle.”
‘Whistle’ is lyrically catching and expected to be a massive success for the pair. The song contains Balearic synths and up-tempo drops that fans would expect from a Jax Jones song. It has undisputed radio appeal and is fun and catchy. Also, “Whistle” fits into Jax’s collection of electronic bangers. Compared to the likes of David Guetta or Tiesto, Jax has been making a good deal of noise in the past decade. His new single, an infectious dance-pop anthem, begs the intriguing question – will Jax Jones and Calum Scott be whistling their way up the charts?
Jax Jones and Calum Scott – “Whistle” music video
According to OfficialCharts.com, Calum Scott heard a demo of “Whistle” and told Jax Jones that he wanted to record the vocal. He also says that he is excited and a little bit scared by what the record might achieve but that the pair are hoping to strike gold.
This is not Jax Jones’s first collaboration; he has previously worked with artists like Demi Lovato, Mable, MNEK, and Raye. He started making music when he was 15 and found success when he met Duke Dumont. The pair co-wrote and released “I Got U,” followed by “Won’t Look Back” and “Ocean Drive.” “I Got U” reached number one on the UK Singles Chart in March 2014. A string of hits followed, including “You Don’t Know Me,” which got to number three in 2016.
Britain’s Got Talent
Calum Scott first came to the public attention when he had the Golden Buzzer treatment from Simon Cowell in the early rounds of ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent. As many know now, the show is a staple on TV schedules and has even been made into an interactive board game created by Drummond Park for fans who want to play along. There is even a Britain’s Got Talent Megaways available to play on a list of slot sites in the UK like Casushi and LeoVegas Casino.
Despite a rocky start on the show, Calum Scott has risen to commercial success. When he reached the finals of BGT in 2015, Scott forgot the lyrics to his cover of Rihanna’s Diamonds. Simon Cowell did not even stand up to applaud Scott, who had been his Golden Buzzer contestant. Jules O’Dwyer and her dog Matisse went on to win that year and perform at The Royal Variety Performance.
It would probably have been expected for Simon Cowell to sign his contestant to his record label. However, this was not what happened to Calum Scott. Luckily, Scott did manage to secure a manager and an agent, and he released a cover of Robyn’s “Dancing on My Own” as an independent artist. The track was his first top-ten hit.
Dance music niche
Calum Scott has found his niche in dance music, and “Whistle” fits right into that niche. He has impressive sonic versatility, which he uses to commercial advantage. The song with Belgian DJ Lost Frequencies reached number one in Ireland, Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary. It peaked at number three in the UK singles chart. However, it was number one for 19 weeks in the UK Dance Single and Album charts and had incredible success in Germany, Australia, Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Sweden, and Switzerland. As well as the new single with Jax Jones, Scott is currently on a world tour.
