Holly Humberstone is a rising singer-songwriter and musician from Grantham, England. Not too long ago, she released a music video for her blistering new single, entitled, “Sleep Tight,” via Darkroom/Interscope/Polydor Records. The song was co-written with the 1975’s Matty Healy and longtime collaborator, Rob Milton.
Holly Humberstone – “Sleep Tight” music video
“Sleep tight, I’m on my way back and feeling kinda sad ‘cause you were the best thing I never knew I had. I’m out of street-lights, I’d better make tracks ‘cause mum expects me back, but you were the best thing I never knew I had. And oh my God, I’ve done it again, I almost killed our friendship and I sure hope it’s worth it. And I’ve got all this stuff boiling up ‘cause I got drunk and said too much, I’m running in circles.” – lyrics
‘Sleep Tight’ tells an intriguing tale about a young woman who has to navigate the blurred lines between friendship and romance and the risk that comes with that. One day, she finds herself in a familiar place—the back of her friend’s vehicle. While there, she tells her friend, “It seems like I wanna rush things, I should just enjoy the ride ‘cause you were the best thing I never knew was mine.” With a vulnerable heart, she continues, “I sure hope we’re worth it ‘cause I said too much I can’t take back. Sorry if you weren’t expecting that.”
‘Sleep Tight’ contains a relatable narrative and ear-pleasing vocals. The likable tune possesses electric guitar, groovy bass, and thudding drum-laden instrumentation flavored with an alternative pop vibration. Furthermore, “Sleep Tight” follows Holly Humberstone’s previously released single, entitled, “Scarlett,” taken from her critically acclaimed second EP, entitled, The Walls Are Way Too Thin.
“You were the best thing I never knew was mine.”
“It’s awkward trying to navigate catching feelings for a friend. As they are often feelings we might have been suppressing for some time. When they float to the surface, you have to weigh up the risks of getting hurt and potentially losing them in your life. I wrote ‘Sleep Tight’ about the uncertainty of friendships evolving into something more. The first summer out of lockdown was pretty crazy for my friends and me because we finally had our freedom back and acted like we had nothing to lose. This song takes me back to that time of what felt like no consequences and impending heartbreak.” – Holly Humberstone explained
Holly Humberstone performed “Sleep Tight” at her outstanding Coachella performance on both April 16th and 23rd. Also, she performed the song on her support tour with Girl In Red across the US. This week she hit the road once again to join fellow BRIT Award and Grammy Award-winning artist, Olivia Rodrigo, on her US tour. Holly kicks it off with two sold-out shows at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
Holly won the prestigious BRITs Rising Star earlier this year, and gave a captivating performance of the heartbreak ballad, “London Is Lonely,” live at the award show, which was the very first time she has ever stepped foot into the O2 Arena. Following in the footsteps of global superstars including Adele, Florence + The Machine, Sam Fender, and Griff, Holly’s Rising Star was only the beginning of a colossal year for the 22-year-old.
