Elizabeth Liddle – “Waiting on the Next One” single

“I’ve gotten through the worst without a word. I’m trying to figure out if I misheard ‘cause you always say the wrong thing. Say sorry without meaning, say you love me when you’re leaving. But now it’s too late ‘cause I know just what I deserve. But I don’t know why you would try to lie. You wasted so much time. But you still try to take it back now like you always did. But now you’ve gone and said it.” – lyrics

‘Waiting on the Next One’ tells a heartfelt tale about a young woman who experiences a painful breakup with her significant other. Apparently, she’s hurt, and her ex-partner is drowning in regret – wishing to take back what was done. Later, she tells her ex-partner, “I’m glad we’re on the same page, I won’t make the same mistakes again.”

“‘Waiting On The Next One’ is about someone going through a breakup and trying to cope with the other person not taking responsibility for their actions. The heartfelt lyrics describe someone discovering that the person they once loved has changed so much that, as a result, they themselves have changed. But they have now come to the realization that they are much better off without this person in their life. The song was written during the first Covid-19 lockdown in 2020, and inspired by a passing comment from the person whose story my song is about.” – Elizabeth Liddle explained

‘Waiting on the Next One’ contains a relatable narrative, ear-pleasing vocals, and tuneful melodies that will resonate well with fans of Diane Birch, Carole King, Carly Simon, and Joni Mitchell. The likable, organic-sounding tune possesses guitar-laden instrumentation flavored with Adult Contemporary and ‘70s-inspired  pop elements. Furthermore, “Waiting on the Next One” follows on the heels of Elizabeth Liddle’s debut single, entitled, “Lonely.”

“Glad you finally told the truth but what’s it worth? I’m trying to figure out what I’d prefer if you’d kept me believing that you loved me without reason. But tell the others you’re not needing me. I’d play right in your game and never know how much this hurts.” – lyrics
