D’Sound is a neo-soul band from Oslo, Norway. Not too long ago, they released a music video for their “Good Intentions” single.
D’Sound – “Good Intentions” music video
“Every time I’m here alone I get this feeling that I’m soon getting a call where you’re telling me all about your busy night. How it might change your life. But I, I don’t complain too much. You can’t see how the life you live affects us. You’re busy holding the world, and it’s heavy. ‘Cause you’re drowning in your words and your dreaming just won’t help me.” – lyrics
‘Good Intentions’ tells a bittersweet tale of a broken young woman who shares a problematic relationship with her significant other. Apparently, she’s hurt when her companion pretends that his absence (work-related) is part of a bigger plan that will benefit them in the future. Even though her partner has good intentions, it still doesn’t negate the fact that she’s being broken and hurt by his actions.
‘Good Intentions’ was written by Mirjam Omdal, Kim Ofstad, and Jonny Sjo—in collaboration with producer, Magnus ‘Magnify’ Martinsen. Since the band couldn’t meet in the usual way in the studio to complete the recording, they had to do it through a conference session—a whole new, and a little weird, way for them to work.
‘Good Intentions’ is D’Sounds’ gift to listeners during a difficult time. They hope the song will be a patch over the wound for listeners who can’t experience them live this summer as planned.
D’Sound
“Simone had a clear, distinct sound, a voice that has been very recognizable, and a very clear way of writing. So when we contacted Mirjam it was also to bring in someone who was not too similar to Simone. At the same time, it was important to bring in someone who was good at writing songs and who had good charisma on stage and was stage-conscious. All of these things about Mirjam, in addition to her insanely cool voice, made us contact her. The way D’Sound works is that when we make music, we are very spontaneous and keen to spice things up a bit. If you have an idea, you can use it. And that is how Miriam is as well.” – Kim Ofstad
D’Sound started in a basement (in the center of Oslo in 1993) with three songwriters and musicians—Kim Ofstad (drums), Jonny Sjo (bass), and Simone Eriksrud (vocals). What they started would last for twenty years after their album debuted in 1997, when Simone chose to leave the music industry to focus on her family. The very last recording D’Sound released with Simone Eriksrud as a vocalist was the single, “Only One”, in 2017. By then, they had released seven studio albums.
In 2018, Mirjam Omdal, who fronted the band—Bay Louie and participated in The Voice—joined the team. Jonny had met her the year before during broadcasts of The Voice in Norway. Shortly afterward, she, Jonny, and Kim clicked.
