Charity Children (Chloë Lewer and Elliott McKee) is a Berlin-based, New Zealand-raised duo. Not too long ago, they released a lovely music video for their “Baby Blue” single.
Charity Children – “Baby Blue” music video
“‘Baby Blue’ aims to encourage listeners to reach out to that special someone, before it’s too late. The title of the song was inspired by Bob Dylan’s ‘It’s All over Now, Baby Blue,’ who sang, ‘Whatever you wish to keep, you better grab it fast.’”
‘Baby Blue’ tells a heartfelt tale about a young woman who finds herself thinking about someone who she still cares a lot about. Apparently, she tried to move on but can’t stop herself from caring or thinking about this person.
‘Baby Blue’ contains a dreamy relationship-based narrative, ear-pleasing vocalization, and tuneful melodies. The melancholic piano ballad possesses melodic instrumentation flavored with a vintage analog sound and an explosive saxophone solo. Furthermore, “Baby Blue” is a tasty appetizer to what listeners can expect to hear on Charity Children’s upcoming album, entitled, “Almost Young,” set to be released in late Summer 2021.
“I’ve tried to stop caring but I can’t get you off my mind.”
“I wrote the song to a crush with a new fling who I didn’t think appreciated or loved them the way they deserved. So many people undervalue themselves in romances and friendships and sell themselves short.”
Charity Children started out as a busking band in Berlin in 2011 and quickly grew over the years, touring Europe and moving off the streets into the studio in the colder months. Between 2016-2019, the pair broke off their romantic relationship and took a break to become friends/collaborators.
Charity Children
Charity Children’s songs are eclectic and colorful, ranging from theatrical and flamboyant, to heart-wrenching. The emphasis is on storytelling, the lyrics are witty and poetic and the production has a modern vintage sound – as if Bowie, Soko, and Tobias Jesso Jr. shared an acid-laced tea.
