Blick Bassy is a France-based singer-songwriter from Cameroon. Not too long ago, he released a performance video for his “Mpodol” single.
Blick Bassy – “Mpodol” music video
“On one hand, a legacy of a fierce struggle for equal rights. Unfortunately, abandoned. On the other hand, shameless ignorance blinding us. Also, when one only needs to turn around to get into the light.” – Blick Bassy
The Thibaut Charlut-directed music video was filmed at Studios Ferber, a storied Paris recording studio. There is where Bassy recorded and co-produced his “1958” album with Renaud Letang (Lianne La Havas, Charlotte Gainsbourg).
The track translates from Bassy’s native language of Bassa as “he who carries the voice of his people”. Also, the song is a dedication to Ruben Um Nyobé, who was murdered by French colonial troops in 1958. He was the leader of the Union Of Cameroonian Peoples.
“1958”
Bassy found musical success with Macase, an award-winning band. They released many albums and ended their run with “Akö”, an album that featured the track, “Kiki”. In 2015, Apple used the song to launch the iPhone 6. Bassy will perform his first UK show in 2 years at St Pancras Old Church on March 11, 2019. Also, his “1958” album will be available on March 8, 2019.
