Ashleigh Bankx (@ashleighbankx) is an up-and-coming London-raised singer-songwriter from Zimbabwe. “Miss You” is a heartfelt expression for listeners who have experienced the bittersweet nature of relationships. Bankx explains, “‘Miss You’ is for my lover girls. We love fearlessly without constraint knowing when to walk away when things just aren’t the same.” This sentiment encapsulates the essence of modern relationships, shedding light on the beauty and complexity of love.

“Miss You” lies in its ability to blend the quintessential UK sound with a rhythmic tone that compels you to move. Bankx finds herself in a chilling world, navigating through emotions that many can relate to. As she reflects, “I can see in your eyes, it’s difficult, conditional, uncertainty love,” she paints a vivid picture of the emotional turmoil that often accompanies love in today’s fast-paced life.

The lyrics resonate with raw emotion as Ashleigh sings, “I keep on rolling back the tapes when I miss you. We keep on running from emotions that’s the issue.” These lines encapsulate the recurring cycle of nostalgia and longing that many experience in love, fostering connections through shared experiences. “Miss You” is a reminder that vulnerability can be powerful, and in this cruel world, we all yearn for a little bit of understanding.

Ashleigh Bankx brings a unique combination of musical influences to distinguish her from the crowd. She grew up listening to Zimbabwean gospel music, afro jazz influenced by a style of township rhythm that evolved in the southern part of Africa, and sungura (a local Zimbabwean genre consisting of lead, rhythm, and bass guitar melodies), before arriving in the UK as a child and falling in love with R&B/soul, pop, and hip-hop.

“I instantly fell in love with the passion and emotion that poured out of the artists’ vocals and lyrics, as well as the instrumentation in their music,” says Bankx. She describes her music as a fusion of all these genres mixed with her unique spin, drawing inspiration from the likes of Nina Simone, Amy Winehouse, and Lauryn Hill, alongside contemporary artists such as Rihanna.

After taking a break from music and finishing her law degree at Brunel University, London, in 2020, Ashleigh found herself back in music when a producer friend in the industry invited her to a studio session, where she experienced a rebirth of her passion. Deciding to dedicate herself 100% to music, she has developed her talent even further and is now ready to unleash new music.
