Ariane is an LA-based singer-songwriter who grew up in Paris, France. Not too long ago, she released a music video for her “Sweatshirt” single.
Ariane – “Sweatshirt” music video
“Skin to skin but you ain’t here. Paper-thin under all these layers. Still got this souvenir, it makes you reappear. Whispering in my ear ’cause you’re out cruising. Left me home but I still got you. So I go slipping into bed, I’ma spend some time with you. Sleeping in your threads, yeah you keep me warm. This polyester blend’s got me all wrapped up in you. Gives me the thrill I deserve, yeah chilling in your sweatshirt.” – lyrics
‘Sweatshirt’ tells a bittersweet tale of a young woman who loves to wear her ex’s Nebraska Cornhuskers sweatshirt.
Apparently, she has a sentimental attachment to the sweatshirt and adores its French cologne smell.
Later, she admits that she used to wear the sweatshirt as a security blanket, but now it’s just a dirty reminder of her ex.
“Be real, be yourself, and forget the rest!”
“This song is about a toxic relationship. The kind where you know you should let go but you still hold onto the fantasies and the objects left behind. I think most of us have been in that uncomfortable place at least once in our lives.” – Ariane
Ariane is a name you should remember. With each release, she continues to establish herself as an exciting artist to watch.
The bubbly songstress sound fits somewhere in the ballpark with Lorde’s powerful lyrical message and the dark and moody sound of Billie Eilish and Olivia O’Brien. Furthermore, she speaks to champion the underdog.
‘Sweatshirt’ will be featured on her upcoming album, entitled, “Original Copy”.
The anticipated project will touch on the pressures this generation faces with excess lifestyles coveted and honed by social media along with the glorification of the past heightened by trends.
Ariane – “Sweatshirt” single
‘Sweatshirt’ paints a picture of a lustful love affair gone awry and the struggle of letting go.
The gritty tune contains a touch of vulnerability, relatable narrative, and tuneful melodies. Also, it possesses ear-welcoming vocals flavored with a dirty synth bass à la Banks.
