Ari Abdul is a 20-year-old singer-songwriter based in New York City. Not too long ago, she released a dark and gloomy debut EP, entitled, “Fallen Angel.” The six-track project is a pop-noir work, levitated by alluring melodies and Ari’s warm, luminescent vocals.
Growing up in Catholic School, Ari became enamored with the story of Lucifer and the “fallen angel” narrative. Ari and her best friend/producer, Thomas LaRosa, worked to create a world behind the EP inspired by “loss of innocence and connection with one’s self into a distorted, wicked version.”

“You have like these nice, lovely, innocent-sounding songs. And by the end of the EP, the songs get really distorted and heavier, and the lyrics get darker. Maybe there’ll be an emotion or a little something that happens in my life in a song, but the EP is completely storytelling. We keep pretty melodies, but still have production and lyrics that completely contradict those pretty melodies.” – Ari Abdul explained
The EP’s most alluring quality is how it gives listeners a glimpse into who Ari is, mingling tenebrous fantasy with her personal story. These twisted narratives come to life in tracks like her debut single, “BABYDOLL,” and the seductive fan-favorite, “TASTE.”
Then there’s one of Ari’s personal favorites, “HELLGIRL.” This is where the transition is completed into the fallen angel. The power of the desire in the track keeps you hooked until the last note. It’s a perfect example of how the EP contains gloomy, sultry instrumentals while effortlessly transitioning into those heavier, distorted sounds.

Another highlight is “HUSH.” The track immediately kicks off with a pulsing beat and slinky bass line. This perfectly pairs with Ari’s haunted and alluring vocals. The lyrics capture that dark-sided pop where Ari Abdul flourishes.

Music quickly became a second language for Ari while growing up in Brooklyn. Her Ecuadorian mom loved Latin music while her Costa Rican/Palestinian father introduced her to classic rock. Rounding everything out were her brothers who were all about hip-hop and metal.
Ari graduated to electric guitar at 14 and started playing grunge songs inspired by Nirvana. But she was too nervous to share her work – let alone her voice – with anyone. She had friends in the choir, but that wasn’t the musical direction she saw herself going into. It wasn’t until LaRosa’s mom encouraged Ari to create her own music in July 2021 that she found the spark to share her voice with the world.

It wasn’t all too long ago she was lining up early outside venues for her favorite artists, and she still considers herself a fangirl today. Her TikTok followers and fans alike have shown a passion for all things Ari Abdul and music. To date, she has amassed over 445K followers and over 10 million likes on TikTok. With a debut EP and a rapidly growing fan base, Ari is capping off 2022 on a high note, and this is only the beginning.
