Anna Hudson – “Leech” Song

“Leech” invites listeners on a journey of introspection and self-discovery. Poignant lyrics like “Gone with my gut again, holding out for a hero or just a man. I don’t understand how it feels to be silent” captures the complexities of human relationships and the struggle for authenticity.
“Are you a friend or are you a leech, tryna get high on dopamine?” Here, Hudson juxtaposes friendship with dependency, compelling us to examine our connections. This line evokes thoughts about what truly defines a friendship and calls attention to those who might drain our energy instead of adding to it.
Other lines such as “Stuck in the mud again, start a war with an argument. You’re just a fan, don’t you dare forget who you are” emphasize the importance of self-identity amidst external influences. The lyrics remind us that while pursuing connections, we must also prioritize our sense of self. The metaphor of treasure hunting encourages listeners to seek value and fulfillment in their lives, rather than becoming entangled in toxic relationships.
“Nothing good can last you forever.”
In her own words, Anna Hudson explains, “‘Leech’ was created almost exclusively in my bedroom. It originated from a quick sampler on Logic, where I loaded up a sample of my voice humming. That sound, a vocal organ of sorts, was so addictive that the rest of the production came seamlessly. This is a song about toxic friendships sucking the life out of you, and my furthest venture into the world of electronic production yet.”
Overall, “Leech” serves as a reflective piece, prompting us to think critically about the dynamics within our friendships. Through relatable and vivid lyrics, Hudson connects deeply with her audience, urging them to consider their own experiences. In a world where emotional authenticity is often overshadowed, songs like this remind us that it’s essential to cherish both personal integrity and meaningful connections.
Anna Hudson
Anna Hudson is a byproduct of collegiate-level music education. So, she knows what it’s like to feel out of place or forced into a bubble. Her music is for all who can relate.
Raised in the perfectly small town of Winston-Salem, Hudson draws inspiration from the vast number of musical influences of the North Carolinian music scene, unafraid to immerse herself in different soundscapes.
“I’d describe my sound as Bon Iver if he were a 22-year-old girl,” Hudson admits. Her newest work, an upcoming debut EP, “Kyphosis,” perfectly demonstrates the purpose and meaning of her music: exploring both the natural and unnatural curves of life, friendship, and love. “Kyphosis” will be released on May 9th, 2025.
