Josh Teskey, globally recognized for his one-of-a-kind range, loans his voice to Alice Ivy who excavates a musical space not yet trodden for the collaborator. Showcasing her ear for simplicity, Ivy stripped back the latest single after a listening break, which bumped up the BPM, leaving a powerful symphony of orchestral and electronic instrumentation shimmering with pop sensibilities. Buoyant OutKast-like horns belly beneath twinkling production, softly clasped hands, and childlike choral arrangements. The minimal soundscape provides room for Teskey’s affecting trills to intensify the youthful innocence of the lyrics.
Speaking of the track’s creation, and collaboration with Josh Teskey, Alice Ivy noted: “Working with Josh was one of the first sessions I had coming out of lockdown in Melbourne. I was so excited to work with him, I’m such a big fan of his vocals and was so interested to hear what it would sound like if we worked on something a little more electronic. I actually pre-sent him the instrumental (which I never really do) and he loved it. He was such a pro when he came in. He spent about 2 hours warming up his vocals blowing into a straw and did about 8 runs of the track. I love this way of recording vocals, from top to bottom not section by section, it’s such a joy to be able to experience the song build so naturally especially as a producer, sitting back and listening to Josh Tesky do his thing on the RCA mic! It’s a moment in my life I will never forget.”
“Do I Need To Know What Love Is” is featured on Alice Ivy’s upcoming third studio album, “Do What Makes You Happy,” available on November 22nd via Helix Records. Josh Teskey joins Kah-Lo and BJ The Chicago Kid (‘Criminal’), Låpsley (‘Popstar’), Mallrat and Jelani Blackman (‘Broke My Heart’), and Mayer Hawthorne (‘Howlin’ At The New Moon’) and others, featured on the project.
Alice Ivy – “Do What Makes You Happy” Album
Motivated by the gratitude each artist brought into the studio following a universally insular and isolating moment, “Do What Makes You Happy” is a time capsule for Alice Ivy. Production of the new record started shortly after the pandemic with Ivy sharing, “[the album] was written at a time where so many people were finally experiencing the freedom to do what gives them the most joy in life again. Everyone I worked with was so enthusiastic and grateful to be able to create in studios again, and to just simply connect with people on that level. I feel like I captured most of the collaborators on this record at their rawest, you can hear it in the vocal recordings.”
“Do What Makes You Happy” further cement Alice’s status as one of Australia’s most innovative and consistent songwriters, producers, and engineers. With a veritable cornucopia of accolades under her belt, it would be an understatement to refer to Alice Ivy as simply “one to watch.” With 70 million career streams to her name, and having built up a reputation for her trademark, emotionally tinged electronica – this instinctive artist’s uncompromising, colorful approach to production and penchant for combining the unlikeliest of references from across the sonic spectrum has won her the recognition of artists such as PNAU, Mallrat, and Mayer Hawthorne, as well as two highly coveted ARIA nods for her 2020 album, “Don’t Sleep.”

Having steadily gained acclaim in her home country, the inclusion of Ivy’s single, “In My Mind” in a global Apple campaign expanded the reach of her effervescent music to a worldwide audience – topping Shazam charts and propelling Ivy from well-respected national talent to international star-in-the-making.
