Alexandra John (Liza and Weston) is a brother-sister duo from San Francisco, California. Not too long ago, they released a lovely lyric video for their “Strung Out” single.
Alexandra John – “Strung Out” lyric video
“The video is based on the toxic relationships or traits that keep you aimlessly up at night and sometimes partying till sunrise to escape your harsh realities. Sometimes, it feels easier to go back to comfort, than to deal with the severe consequences. Breaking ties with a lover, or in general with relationships can be difficult especially when someone is so close to you. ‘Strung Out’ represents the self-awareness of cutting ties with that person, place, or thing that had been weighing you down all along. Ultimately often our solution is our problem.” – Alexandra John explained
‘Strung Out’ represents toxic traits that people struggle with and they can’t get away from. They keep going to the root of the issue expecting different results but end up right where they left off. Whether it be romantic or substance-related, we all have forms of self-sabotage and the subconscious desire for self-destruction.
‘Strung Out’ also contains a relatable narrative and ear-pleasing vocals that will resonate well with music lovers. The likable tune possesses groovy guitar and energetic horn-laden instrumentation flavored with disco and electro-pop elements. Furthermore, “Strung Out” is the second single from Alexandra John’s upcoming debut EP, which is an odyssey of healing.
“There must be something in the water.”
“On the track, we used piano, synth, guitar, and horns. We collaborated the horns with 504 horns, players Jason Parfait and Ian Smith. We sent them our track without the horns, and they took it to the next level. Once the horns were implemented in the track, this whole other vibe of futuristic pop disco was born. The bass also plays a large part in driving and leading the chorus along with the vocal hook. All and all, ‘Strung Out’ is our take on a modern pop disco track that still retains the old-school vibes of the ‘60s and ‘70s. Wes and I feel that this track is Pop Disco with a taste of future R&B.” – Liza explained
Raised in a household of rhythm and rhyme, Liza and Weston share melodies that are a language of a family collective. Born on April 18th, 1996, at San Francisco’s Kaiser Hospital, the brother and sister would spark a bond of passion that little did they know would carry them through life.
Weston, a seasoned musician, has been playing the drums, guitar, and piano since his years in grade school. Liza, raised on the keys of the piano, has always loved to sing, and spent her youth dancing and acting in the performing arts. Together, the twins have worked in tandem to create music that inspires and illuminates the soul. Through adversity, grieving, and acceptance, this dynamic pair is ready to share their narrative with the world.
Alexandra John – “Strung Out” single
“Waking up in a daze, rolling over. How in the world did I wash up here? I am done being afraid, want us to come and play. The high you give seems to disappear. Just when I thought that I knew you. I am strung out. I am strung out, spread thin, and nothing left for you. I am strung out; I am strung out. These endless nights waiting for the sunrise, young and reckless with no fear in mind.” – lyrics
