Alexandra John (Liza and Weston Cain) is an LA-based brother and sister duo from San Francisco, California. Not too long ago, they released a lovely music video for their new nu-disco pop single, titled, “Lonely Night.”

“We really wanted to capture the emotions of a night out. You can have those innocent moments of fun and then the not-so-great ones, where you’re trying to give yourself a pep talk and know that while partying till the sun’s up feels exhilarating, the aftermath can hit as fast as the high did. While driving around looking for a night out, we run into a bar, and we both head our separate ways to find our escape. We’re having a great time and then everything begins to hit and realize that either I continue to party into the void, make decisions I regret, or worse, not remembering my choices and I am left alone or I choose to be alone.” – Alexandra John explained
Alexandra John aren’t just real-life, born-on-the-same-day twins, they’re also musical twins, developing an early bond that has carried them through life. In 2020, they combined their middle names to form Alexandra John and worked to hone their now infectious brand of indie electro-pop that embodies both feminine and masculine energies.

“Everyone has issues and uncomfortable feelings they seek to escape from. Sometimes we hope the escape will last forever but we know time can’t stand still. At the end of the night, more than often we can find ourselves alone. ‘Lonely Night’ speaks to those nights, where all you want to do is escape, but no matter what you do to escape, your issues and mental demons you’re dealing with are still with you after the party is over. You have to come to the realization that all we have is the now. It can feel restless and a slow burn, but in the impermanence and acceptance of the now, you can find peace within yourself you’d been searching for all along.” – Alexandra John explained
Alexandra John was raised in a musical household, so they both have music traversing through their DNA. Liza spent much of her childhood dancing, acting, and singing in the performing arts, as well as playing the piano. Weston, a seasoned instrumentalist, has been playing the drums since the age of four, picking up other instruments – like the guitar and the piano – as he grew older.

“We were inspired by what our parents would say, ‘The good old days.’ Music during one of its purest and most timeless decades. We grew up listening to various genres and love to implement those influences into our sound. We have been inspired to take our sound from our debut EP, ‘Healing,’ to the next level. We have worked with 504 horns, (musicians Jason Parfait and Ian Smith) again to keep our sound cohesive and bring that sense of nostalgia to our sound. We’ve been inspired by pop, disco funk, soul lounge, and R&B. When we created ‘Lonely Night,’ we wanted to share a song for everyone and anyone who’s had one of those nights. And to have the hope that through the loneliness is when you discover what you want and who it is you really are.” – Alexandra John explained
Alexandra John creates music that inspires and illuminates the soul. They use music to address some of our most universal struggles, from anxiety and addiction to grief and loss. Furthermore, Alexandra John draws influence from artists like Massive Attack, Glass Animals, and Zero 7.
