“The beats selection and samples used, mixed with Finesse’s lyrics and Smooth’s legendary scratches, makes “Funky Technician” a classic work of art, peaking at #93 on U.S. Billboard Top R&B Albums.”

“Rap fans will be delighted to know that DJ Premier also mixed the entire album in post-production, resulting in an incredibly crisp-sounding record that’s as good today as it was back in 1990.” – RapReviews

We gave ‘Funky Technician’ 5.0 Stars (5.0 / 5)

Every song on “Funky Technician” sounds great, and each song deserves its own time in the spotlight. But today, we will only be focusing on “Strictly for the Ladies”, one of the greatest hip-hop songs of all time. Produced by DJ Premier, “Strictly for the Ladies” showcases Lord Finesse’s lyrical bravado and self-confidence.

The Bronx emcee lives up to his moniker, and delivers one classic bar after another, while keeping listeners entertained with relatable storylines. The way Finesse communicates with words is inventive, a true Kung-Fu wordsmith, able to use a variety of colorful words to paint a self-portrait of himself, while in the company of females.

LYRICS

“Now I give a girl more than she’s asking for. I take them 18 and up, and that’s for sure. So, when you’re done or you’re bored with your stupid zero. Contact me and I’ll save you like a super hero. Please your needs and get all close to you. And do you right like a man is supposed to do. Knock your boots until I begin to sprout. Give you something to brag to your friends about.

After a date I’m the type to get pissed. When y’all girls want to front on a kiss. I let ’em know I’m not slow or work late. Y’all front the role (I don’t kiss on the first date). Baby please, don’t give me that feedback. Straight up and down, you expect me to believe that? I’ll take a kiss or a peck with a tight hug. I’m not the type to go out like a light bulb.

Or get crazy or go insane or get fed up. I’ll get smooth and gas your whole head up. Get you open so I could get in, you see. The next day I might lose my memory. (Finesse, remember last night’s action?) I don’t know nothing and ain’t nothing happened. (but last night you was kissing and hugging me!). Sorry to disappoint you, but it wasn’t me. Now she’s embarrassed, astounded, and hurting. The fly girl a whole different person. So see, how I dissed her and played her. Just to get the odds in my favor. You may think I’m out of hand or crazy. Yeah, that’s why, this is strictly for the ladies.”

IN CONCLUSION

Finesse’s ability to add humor to that highly structured requirement, was, and still is, impressive. “Strictly for the Ladies” was released during a time when hip-hop music was at its highest peak, when emcees had to creatively blend dictionary words with street-slang vernacular.

Therefore, if you haven’t done so already, listen to “Strictly for the Ladies” by Lord Finesse and DJ Mike Smooth, and allow pure hip-hop music to enter your mind, body and soul.
